Long the leader in the OB/GYN and Vascular ultrasound, this unit has recently dropped down to a very reasonable price while providing some of the best ultrasound images on the market. It's also a solid cardiac unit, and is very good for shared services imaging (offices doing full body studies that include cardiac, vascular, OB/GYN among others). Integrated stress echo is also an option. Major imaging upgrades to this system include SonoCT and XRES (separate upgrades), each of which brought this machine to the forefront as arguably the best radiology ultrasound available. The SonoCT (similar to GE's CrossXBeam) technology allows the transducer to transmit and receive signals in many different directions, as opposed to a single direction, which means SonoCT theoretically allows the ultrasound to hear more than 9 times more information from the tissue, which reduces the number of artifacts in the resulting image. Also introduced on the HDI 5000 was XRES (Extreme Resolution), which has a similar effect as tissue harmonics, but it is able to operate at the higher frequencies (where tissue harmonics cannot be used), giving you a system that will give excellent resolution at very superficial imaging depths.
